Chains and lifting equipment can also be used for load securement and fastening. In the transportation sector, large machines and equipment are often moved. This is typically on wagons, but the same applies on ships and even planes.
The loads that are being transported need to be fastened down so that they do not move whilst in transit. If they are not secured properly, these enormous loads can move which can lead to serious damage and accidents.

William Hackett supplies a range of lashing equipment used to secure loads during transport.
We hold large stocks of load binders and can make up single leg chain assemblies with hooks to suit each job. This is a common solution for securing plant and equipment on flat bed wagons.
William Hackett has also developed a range of umbilical reel lashing equipment. These huge reels are shipped on vessels and need to secured to the deck during transport.
Subsea umbilical reels can weigh up to 17t therefore standard chains and load binders do not have the required capacity.
That is why William Hackett have developed a bespoke lever hoist with adaptable top and bottom hooks. The ideal lashing solution for transporting umbilical reels.
The William Hackett Umbilical reel lashing solution consists of deck lashing points, grade 100 collar chains and 10t adaptable lever hoists.
The weld on D links act as an anchor point onto the vessel deck. The capacities vary from 1t up to 20t. A shackle then connects the D link to the collar sling.
These collar slings are supplied in gr100 chain to provide maximum strength and durability. A 10t L4 lever hoist is then used to tension the chains onto the umbilical reels.
The standard top and bottom hooks have been removed from the 10t lever hoists and bespoke adaptors fitted into the hook housings.
This allows for clevis fittings to be attached to the hoist. These clevis shackles offer a secure connection and provide more reliability than the standard hook with spring latch.
