Containers and equipment in the marine sector are constantly being moved from vessels onto rigs and platforms. Norwegian government regulations dictate the preferred method for marine lifting slings to be made from chain rather than wire.
These “Norsok Standards” forbid any mechanical fixings, meaning the normal method of cutting chain and using connectors is not permitted. Chain slings stay attached to the load and are left open to the hostile marine environment where hydrogen embrittlement can occur.
Marine environments present unique challenges for lifting equipment: Corrosive seawater, and extreme temperatures can lead to rapid equipment degradation and hydrogen embrittlement. William Hackett understands this and has developed the engineering solutions to meet and exceed the demands of stringent regulations which govern the industry.

Zinc Tough Technology uses advanced anti-corrosion coatings that protect equipment from the damaging effects of seawater.
This significantly extends the lifespan of lifting equipment and chains. Products designed with ZT Technology are made to withstand the harshest of marine conditions.
By extending equipment life and reducing maintenance needs, ZT Technology boosts operational efficiency. Less downtime means more productivity and lower costs.
The extended lifespan of ZT-enabled products means less frequent replacements, minimising waste and promoting sustainability.
Working with our manufacturing partner Mckinnon Chain in South Africa, we produce fully welded chain sling assemblies. All are DNV type approved.
We do hold stock of common sizes, but most assemblies are made to order.
The welded chain slings are treated with Zinc Tough Technology which all but eliminates the risk of salt-water ingress and hydrogen embrittlement.
The system not only does a great job but satisfies all “Norsok Standard” requirements.
William Hackett Marine Equipment withstands the extreme conditions of the North Sea with unmatched resilience.
