Rail

Introduction

Track maintenance is a task vital for the safety and continuous efficiency of rail systems. It encompasses all the necessary procedures and operations required to keep tracks in optimal condition. This ensures a smoother ride, reduces the likelihood of accidents, and extends the track lifespan. Keeping a rail network moving presents unique challenges. Traditional maintenance methods can entail strenuous labour, inefficient workflows, and alarming safety issues. As the rail industry expands, so does the demand for more advanced and reliable solutions.

Over time, tracks suffer from natural wear and tear due to the constant weight and friction of passing trains. This can lead to defects such as cracks, spalling, and railhead deformation. Track maintenance often requires a section of the track to be taken out of service, leading to disruptions and delays. Keeping the railways running often involves lifting, manoeuvring, and placing heavy rail components, an arduous task when performed manually. It can be hugely time-consuming, leading to prolonged downtime.

Solutions

William Hackett has developed the SSL5 Iron man lever hoist in collaboration with a major rail maintenance manufacturer. This network rail specified hoist has been adapted and fitted to a specially designed mounting plate attached to an Iron man track trolley.

Using in house research and development, this is another example where William Hackett have been able to take standard products and develop them to specific sector requirements. Working closely with end users and industry stakeholders to understand challenges and innovating our products to provide solutions.

Key Products

In the face of these challenges, William Hackett's SS-L5 Iron man hoist is a real boon to the rail industry. Engineered using robust materials and twin-pawl technology, the Iron man hoist can lift and handle heavy track components efficiently and safely reducing downtime and rail disruption. Track maintenance often involves dealing with heavy components, and the Ironman hoist has been built to manage these weighty tasks effectively and safely.

Whether it's for lifting or placing rails, sleepers, or signalling equipment, the Ironman hoist provides a reliable and safe method to handle heavy loads. The Ironman Hoist contributes significantly to the efficiency of these tasks.

It allows maintenance teams to lift and move heavy items quickly and safely, thereby reducing the time required for maintenance operations and improving worker safety. A standout feature of the Ironman Hoist is the user-friendly design. It is engineered to be straightforward to operate, an essential feature in the demanding environment of rail track maintenance. Operators can control the load with precision, allowing for accurate positioning and movement of heavy rail component.
