Subsea

Introduction

Energy production in recent years has seen an increase in subsea operations. Infrastructure, pipelines and cables need to be transported and installed sometimes at great depths. The materials and equipment used in these operations are of extremely high value and so it is crucial that the material handling is fit for purpose.

Depending on how deep the operation is subsea will determine whether it is carried out by a diver or a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). There are a number of challenges during subsea operations that need to be addressed when selecting the correct equipment. Visibility is limited so bright colours can help to easily identify key components. Salt water corrodes steel based products if they are used in and out of the water. Corrosion can lead to equipment failures which has significant safety and cost implications.
